We all can officially start the countdown to the announcement that’s been in the making seemingly for years. Apple has begun sending out invites to the press for an event on September 9th where “We the people of the United Apple Fanboys enthusiasts of America” will (hopefully) finally have our larger (unofficially named) iPhone 6.
We can’t help but assume that Apple will finally deliver on our wishes for a larger iPhone 6 as various parts of a 4.7 inch AND a 5.5 inch iPhone have been leaked by manufacturers and the media over…and over…and over…and over again.
What To Expect From The Apple Event
It’s a safe assumption that Apple will announce a larger iPhone 6, most likely the 4.7 inch version. Apple may surprise us all and announce the 5.5 inch version as well. But we’re not clear if both will be available for purchase in the initial weeks after the announcement, or will Apple release the 5.5 inch version later during the holiday season or early 2015.
iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
Expect iOS 8 be officially show off during the 9/9 event as well. Apple has been pretty good it making the latest mobile OS available for download on all iOS devices, whether you get the iPhone 6 or not, very shortly after its unveiling. As an added bonus, Apple may also announce the availability of the new Mac OS X “Yosemite” operating system as well. iOS and Yosemite both have features that makes compatibility between an iPhone and a Mac a more seamless and natural experience.
Finally, Apple may just give fans (and shareholders) more than they can handle and announce Apple’s first wearable (unofficially named) iWatch that connects to an iPhone for reminders, calendar updates, messages/notifications, and other goodies right on your wrist. An iWatch has been a speculation for quite a while, and the wearables industry as a whole has been waiting on what Apple has in mind for a smart watch.
We all may get our wish on September 9th at 1pm Eastern. I will make sure to live tweet that joint, so be sure to follow me on Twitter for the play-by-play.
