An Atlanta Post Report
Let’s face it, more recent generations view the NAACP as their parent’s organization. The organization took a step in the right direction by appointing Ben Jealous (its youngest CEO ever) several years ago. Realizing that a large portion of 20 and early 30 somethings are heavy into social media and mobile content consumption, the organization has hit the ground running by creating a mobile app specifically for this year’s NAACP Annual Convention and unveiling its brand new social networking site that’s geared towards students and young activists.
The 2011 Annual NAACP Convention takes place July 23-28 in Los Angeles, and the cross-platform convention app was created to be a “complete resource for attendees” and includes features like a detailed schedule and map, to a directory of staff & speakers, to the ability for attendees to share convention content via Twitter and Facebook using the #NAACPLA11 hashtag so the non-attendees can follow along virtually. Attendees and those who want to follow along can also visit the NAACP Getting Social page and check out the different ways the organization will be using social media specifically for this year’s convention.
