5LINX Jumps Out Ahead of Most Major Android Manufacturers with Velocity Tablet Loaded with Android 4.0

Network Marketing with a Tech-Twist

Multi-level/Network Marketing Programs: Some people swear by them while others think they are the new pyramid scheme. I have no personal experience to fully support or condem them. What I can say is that I can appreciate any company that has a technology product/service that can actually benefit its customers. 5Linx is one of those network marketing programs that at the very least, provides a valuable product (affordable home/business telecommunications/VOIP services) that everyday people can benefit from.

Another reason I can appreciate 5Linx is because they make sure to stay up on the latest and greatest technology has to offer instead of just offering up any old product in hopes that prospective entrepreneurs looking to take advantage of the program will focus solely on their “salesforce”, versus caring if the product actually works. Case and point, the Velocity 8″ Android Tablet packed with OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) – A feat that many major tablet manufacturers haven’t managed to do yet.

Don’t Cut the Cord Completely, Just Shave It A little

Facial Shaver

Trim that TV stubble

If you’re not familiar with the term “Cutting the Cord” it generally consists of:

- Canceling your cable/satellite TV service and returning all equipment (Set-top boxes, etc)

- Taking advantage of free OTA (Over The Air) terrestrial local network channels: ABC, CBS, NBS & Fox

- Surfing the Web for programming via a computer connected your TV or Internet-connected device (Gaming Console, Boxee Box, Roku, or Apple TV, App-Enabled Smart TV or DVD Player)

- Signing up for online entertainment services like iTunes, Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, BlockBuster, etc. and/or getting old-school DVD’s from Netflix or Redbox.

The idea is that you can MOSTLY piece together what you would normally watch solely via cable/satellite for free or over the internet…and not have to be a slave to the cable/satellite providers, and their insane prices. The luxury that cable/satellite has over other methods is ease of use, and plain’ old channel surfing. In other words, you’re not constantly switching sources, downloading content, or waiting for the stream to buffer to watch a show, and you’re more likely to “stumble” upon something interesting to watch by just flipping channels, or searching the built-in “TV-Guide” more-so than typing random words in a search box.

So if you’re not sure you can survive cutting the cord completely, here are just a few practical ways to upgrade your online entertainment and downgrade your current cable/satellite viewing habits.

Sonos Play:3 HiFi System Review

I got a chance to review the new Play:3 unit from Sonos, and I must say I am very impressed. Not to talk up the Sonos brand any more than I already have in the past, but the Sonos Wireless HiFi System is a group of devices that let you stream music wirelessly throughout your house. You can stream music from your iTunes Library that is located on a computer that is connected to your home network, or choose from a number of sources including, but not limited to:

…And over 100,000 free radio stations worldwide

What makes Sonos an ideal choice for those looking to distribute music throughout their house is the fact that you don’t need to run any wires (with the exception of a power cord) to use any of the equipment. Simply connect one of the Sonos devices to your router, and you can keep adding units to anywhere you want music wirelessly because the devices create a wireless mesh network that doesn’t interfere with your current network.

Review & Giveaway – 6ft In-Wall Rated HDMI Cable

Don't fall for the "Snake Oil"

Don’t let Monster Cable “High-end” cable manufacturers sell you any Snake Oil by saying the only way to get high quality performance out of your Audio/Video gear is to buy $60-$100 cables. If the cables you buy to hook all of your gear up alone cost anywhere near half of what it cost to buy the actual equipment, you just got played.

Which should segway very nicely into the 6ft. In-Wall Rated HDMI cable the nice folks over at Triangle Cables sent me to review. Since I am still an A/V guy at heart, I jumped at the chance to try out the cable. I must say for the price, this cable ROCKS. One of these cables will run you approximately $27 dollars plus shipping…if they weren’t on sale. Right now, you can grab a pair in the 6ft length from the Triangle Cables website for $9 Dollars. Honestly, you really don’t know how good a deal that is, so let me break down the quality of this cable:

[Video] Sonos Wireless HiFi System – First Look

Yes, I'm still an A/V geek

Shout out to the folks over at Sonos sending over a pair of their new Play:3 Players and a Sonos Bridge to review. I must say, as a long fan of Sonos gear, I was beside myself with joy (yes, men can use the word joy) when the gear showed up at my house yesterday.

So much so that I decided to shoot a little video just to get in the habit of doing more videos.
