Net Neutrality…a Brotha's Take

The term “Net Neutrality” pertains to the arena of residential broadband networks. A neutral network is free of hardware, communication, content, and service restrictions. What this means is if you pay for a certain level of access, you are guaranteed access to all that falls within that level of access. So if you pay for instant broadband internet access from an internet provider, they are required to give you access to everything broadband internet access has to offer…EVEN IF that access involves communicating with hardware, content, service, website, etc. of your provider’s competitor(s)!
The Lowdown:
In other words, if your internet provider is rhymes with “Forecast” and you want to check out a live stream from another user who uses a streaming service from a provider that rhymes with “Horizon”, net neutrality provides you with the right to do so without being restricted (you like how I did that don’t you).
Folks in favor of net neutrality claim that large telecomm companies want to slow or lock down interaction with competitor’s services, or bundle services together to give consumers the impression that the only way to gain access to certain services is to buy them.
Makes sense doesn’t it? Well of course, there are always two sides to every story, and major opponents of net neutrality (large hardware companies and other major players in the cable and telecomm industry, of course) say that they have no plans to impose such restrictions; but according to some of those in favor of net neutrality claim these large companies are already doing so by slowing down certain communications like Peer-to-Peer (P2P)
Who REALLY knows if “Forecast” or “Horizon” has plans to lockdown their services in order to force encourage their customers to ONLY user their services…but is just SOUNDS like something they would do, as a result, Brotha Tech is very much in favor of net neutrality laws…just in case!
