How To: One-Hand Typing On An iPhone

I’ll be the first to admit that I have “average” size hands for a man #LivingInMyTruth. So after using the larger iPhone 7 Plus for a year, I’ve noticed that most of my iPhone operation is done with two hands.

Recently, I’ve discovered a built-in iOS 11 feature that makes one-hand typing easier on any iPhone if you have crazy small hands, but especially comes in handy (see what I did there) if you have a larger iPhone.

Essentially what happens is when this feature is active, it condenses the keyboard and moves it to your preferred side depending on which hand you prefer.

To activate this feature, you need to:

  1. Open any screen that also prompts the virtual keyboard to appear
  2. Press and hold the “globe” button situated between the microphone and numbers buttons
  3. Choose which side keyboard (right or left) you prefer

The keyboard will “squeeze” and move to which side you choose to allow you to quick type using one hand.

This will definitely be a feature I use daily…that is until I get my iPhone X that’s scheduled to arrive on my doorstep on Nov. 3rd.
