Oven door bait and switch

Scam artists are getting cleaver (or increasingly desperate) in their attempts to scam unsuspecting victims determined to get the best deal on the latest home electronics.
The Lowdown:
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that local police approached a guy and confiscated an oven door dressed up to look like a 37″ plasma TV wrapped in bubble wrap with store stickers all over it (to further diguse the fake). They found the guy based on a tip from another citizen who explained that the guy attempted to sell them the phony TV in a Wal Mart parking lot.
Now the cops don’t think the guy was actually trying to sell the fake TV, but due to other crimes previously reported in the area, it was an attempt to lure the victim away for the sole purpose of robbing them.
Turns out, it’s not illegal to own an oven door, and since they didn’t catch him in the act, the cops just took the prop and sent the guy on his way.
Now, Brotha Tech is always on the lookout for the hookup just like the next man, but I would prefer that you all be careful and just spend the money via legit outlets before you conduct a shady deal with a guy who approaches you with an over door.
