In a move to fire back on Apple’s “closed, locked-down platform” as stated by an Adobe higher-up, Adobe has ceased all future iPhone-specific development of it’s CS5 product line. CS5′s primary feature was bringing Flash content to smart phones. This is in response to Apple changing the terms of it’s new iPhone OS 4.0 development license (the same OS that will come with the iPhone 4G this summer and available for download to the iPad in the fall) that blocks any apps being created with Flash technology.

Which means this could definately be a win for other smart phone platforms, specifically Android, whose got big-brother Google in it’s corner.

Sound to me like a three-some (giggle) of Adobe, Android & Google joining forces to take down the evil Apple Corporation that everybody loves to hate.

I shall call them “The Super Friends”

Already taken? Nevermind.

Remember you heard it here first…or not

With Google Cloud Print, You send a print request to the application, and it notifies a nearby printer connected to a network. As long as the printer has a IP address, you can send print requests to it from anywhere!

I say may be able to deliver, because the application is not a reality. Google has only made documentation and code about it’s plans available to developers, so there’s no working model yet.

But at the rate the Google is taking over the world, I would expect this venture to become a reailty very soon.

If you think Google is “Big Brother in Training” now, wait till you hear about it’s new pet project: Google PowerMeter. I just used that big brother line to stir up enough emotion to keep your attention throughout my article (hope it works)

The Lowdown:

“Google PowerMeter is a project of Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, which aspires to leverage the power of information and technology to address global challenges.”

What Google wants to achieve with this new endeavor is to get people to watch their home energy consumption in real time in hopes that folks will take a more conscious effort to cut their energy usage. PowerMeter’s three-prong plan is to:

Access
See your electricity use from any Google Powermeter enabled device.

Learn
Understand more about how you use electricity throughout the day.

Save
Reduce your electricity use and lower your monthly bills.

The way it works is your utility company has to be a PowerMeter partner, then you have to purchase a PowerMeter-enabled device. Then you can monitor your home energy comsumption in real time using Google PowerMeter similar to how you would check your email using Google Mail.

Right now, Google PowerMeter is in it’s infant stage and is currently available mostly in the UK. There are only a couple of utility companies in the US that participate (Cali and Florida), so don’t think you can just run out and within a couple of days, see how much energy your dishwasher consumes with your Google Nexus One Phone (see how I linked it all together). But as more people sign on to the whole “How much money in energy am I throwing away” thought process, Google will surely be out in front, once again.

If I were a betting man (I can’t stand to lose any more than $25 dollars, so clearly I am NOT), I would say that Smart Homes will be all the rage in the US during this decade. Google PowerMeter will be another way to intergrate/upgrade technology in your home to give you more control, while making living more enjoyable and energy efficient = win/win!

Who knew? (I sure didn’t)

Apparently since 2006, Google has operated an online store named (you guessed it) Google Store that sells google-branded merchandise like Blogger coffee mugs, Google tshirts and other clothing apparel…including kids stuff. The store even has a recently launched section reserved exclusively for YouTube-branded stuff.

It just strikes me as strange that since Google is attempting to take over the world (that’s what it seems like anyway) one would think there would’ve been more hype around a store where you can get a shirt to match your search engine, email inbox, your mobile apps, your video favorites, your new phone number, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
