Twelve South HiRise MacBook Stand

I’d like to consider myself a minimalist. So you won’t find my office desk space cluttered with a ton of stuff. Adding the Twelve South HiRise MacBook stand to the setup was the perfect solution for my: 1) Neat-freakiness 2) Lack of desk space and 3) Need for a dual-display experience.

You can tell that HiRise was made for a MacBook due to its sleek, brushed metal design that matches the aluminum unibody MacBook style. It’s not all flash either. HiRise keeps your MacBook in place via two v-shaped arms lined with soft silicon that grips the bottom of your Mac without sticking to or damaging it. Additionally, the bottom of HiRise is lined with teflon rails that will allow you move it around without damaging your desk either.

I have a 13″ Retina MacBook Pro, and it’s nice to know that the HiRise MacBook stand works with any MacBook, from the tiny 11-inch MacBook Air all the way up the manly 15″ Retina MacBook Pro. In other words, the HiRise can stick around if I ever decide to upgrade or if Mrs. Tech wants to steal use it for her 13″ MacBook Air. To compensate for all the different MacBook screen sizes, HiRise has a spring-loaded stem that lets you easily raise or lower the height for the optimal viewing experience if you’re pairing up the screen with an external monitor like I am, or if you simply need to find the best angle if you’re using your MacBook as a stand-alone desktop.

After using HiRise for the last week, I can agree with Twelve South’s pitch that it’s more like an upgrade than a mere accessory (even though I tagged this post as “accessories”…It’s just that I don’t have an “upgrade” category).
