I was so terrified to though because it felt like I was going to be left stranded without Mama Blogger.com's hand to hold lol. When I finally decided to register my domain I was so worried somebody had already taken it. It's true that getting a domain name is pretty easy and can be done very inexpensively, but in my experience, finding a name that hasn't already been registered was really tough. It's annoying that almost any domain name imaginable has been registered, and most aren't even being used...just held hostage by people (like you said) trying to sell the names at inflated prices. I spent about 15 hours using the helpful domain tool www.bustaname.com before I found an acceptable and unregistered name for my site. Good post.
