Don't be Scurred, make the move

Parallels, Inc. software has been a long-time aid for folks who either need to run multiple operating systems on a single computer, or to just help with the overall transition from one operating system to another. Now Parallels heads over to the Mac App Store with its popular Parallels Transporter that makes the move from a PC to a Mac easy.

The coolest thing about the Parallels Transporter app is that you don’t have to convert or download all of your files you want to move off of your current PC first before moving them over to your shiny new Mac. Just connect your PC and Mac to the same network, and the Parallels Transporter Agent collects data on your PC and uses your wireless network or an external storage device to transfer it to Parallels Transporter on your Mac. Pictures, video, web bookmarks, Parallels Transporter receives data from the Parallels Transporter Agent and copies it to the appropriate locations on your Mac. The files stored in your Windows home directory are copied to the corresponding folders on your Mac so they can be accessed and used with compatible Mac programs. In addition to moving pictures, music and documents from a PC to corresponding Mac folders, Parallels Transporter also moves Windows programs and other files into a virtual machine on your Mac in case they are needed.

“A growing number of consumers and small businesses are looking for an easy way to move to a Mac,” said Kim Johnston, Vice President of Marketing for Parallels. “We created Parallels Transporter to be the simplest, most efficient way to transfer everything you need from your old PC to your Mac in just a few easy steps. Now you can move to a Mac without the time-consuming chore of manually moving files and without the expense of hiring somebody to do it for you.”

When I switched from a PC to a Mac, I did it the old-school way – Scanned through ALL of my files, in ALL of my folders, just to find the stuff I wanted to keep, I saved it all in one folder, and tried to download them to a computer I wasn’t using. I actually LOST some personal home videos in the process (Don’t tell Mrs. Tech). When my MacBook Pro arrived, I had to go back to that old computer and try to organize and move all of that stuff to my new Mac. Since I’m a techie, the entire experience wasn’t a huge deal.

But, for those of you who may not be tech-savvy, the ability to just connect your computers to your network and run software like Parallels Transporter can be a real time saver, in addition to not having to worry about what’s getting safely moved over (and what’s not). Even though I’m a techie, I still would’ve have opted for the Parallels Transporter software to just make the whole process easy.

So it’s my duty share the knowledge so others can take advantage. Parallels Transporter is available for download from the Mac App Store for limited time offer of $0.99, after the offer is over, the price will jump to 39 bucks. So if you’re thinking about coping one of those new MacBook Pros with the Thunderbolt do-hickey, be sure the Parallels Transporter app is the FIRST app you download.
